Drums, Girls, and Dangerous Pie by Jordan Sonnenblick is about a boy named Steven who has an awesome life.  He is the best drum player at his school.  Sadly, his brother is diagnosed with leukemia (cancer) and is going through a hard time in life.  One the night of Steven’s concert for his drums his brother get a very high fever.  He chooses to go with his brother to the hospital rather than play in his concert.  Happily nothing happens to Steven’s brother and the cancer has gone away.

I really liked this book because even though it was very serious at times, it was also very funny.  In one part of the book Steven’s brother soaks Steven’s autographed drumsticks in “Dangerous Pie” which is eggs, raw bacon, applesauce and many other gross things.
